PL0002/2026 – Coal, Uranium & Strategic Minerals Project
The PL0002/2026 Strategic Minerals Project is a large-scale mineral exploration concession held by Corestone Minerals (Pty) Ltd, covering approximately 936.52 km² in Botswana. The prospecting licence commenced on 1 April 2026 and runs until 31 March 2029.
The project provides exposure to four strategic mineral commodities: coal, uranium, thorium and potassium, offering a diversified exploration opportunity across energy minerals and strategic resources.
Geological Setting & Regional Mineral Potential
Botswana's extensive Karoo sedimentary basin provides an important geological setting for coal and uranium exploration. The Karoo Supergroup contains sedimentary sequences comprising sandstone, siltstone, shale, carbonaceous mudstone and coal-bearing formations. In particular, the Ecca Group hosts several of Botswana's established coalfields and is also recognised as prospective for sandstone-hosted uranium mineralisation.
Regional geological studies have identified several uranium-bearing environments in Botswana, including Karoo sandstone formations, calcrete deposits associated with ancient drainage systems and certain intrusive geological formations. These different geological settings provide a regional framework for investigating uranium potential within the project area.
Coal represents another important exploration target, with Botswana's Karoo basins hosting significant coal-bearing sedimentary sequences. The wider country has also demonstrated occurrences of uranium and thorium associated with different geological environments, supporting further investigation of strategic radioactive minerals.
Strategic Mineral Opportunities
The project is focused on evaluating the potential for:
Coal: Exploration of sedimentary sequences associated with Botswana's Karoo coal-bearing formations.
Uranium: Investigation of potential sandstone-hosted and sediment-associated uranium mineralisation.
Thorium: Assessment of potential thorium-bearing geological formations and associated mineral occurrences.
Potassium: Investigation of geological environments and mineral deposits that may host potassium-bearing minerals.
Exploration & Development Strategy
The proposed exploration strategy will incorporate historical geological data reviews, geological mapping, remote sensing, geochemical sampling and appropriate geophysical surveys to identify and prioritise prospective mineral targets.
Radiometric surveys, magnetic and electromagnetic investigations, together with targeted drilling, will form part of the broader exploration approach to evaluate the potential of the licence area and advance the identified mineral targets.
Project Vision
With a substantial exploration footprint of approximately 936.52 km² and exposure to coal, uranium, thorium and potassium, PL0002/2026 represents an important addition to Corestone Minerals' diversified Botswana mineral exploration portfolio.
The project provides an opportunity to investigate multiple strategic commodities within Botswana's mineral-rich geological environment, supporting the Company's broader ambition to develop a diversified portfolio of energy, base and critical mineral assets.
